Expert Instruction, Nationally Ranked Course

Duke Integrative Medicine’s Peak Performance Golf is led by the experts from Integrated Golf at Duke, a program that unites top ranked Duke University and Medical Center with the award-winning Duke University Golf Club.

Professional-Level Instruction

Launched in 2002 and led by PGA Master Golf Professional Ed Ibarguen and Duke University assistant professor and doctor of physical therapy Eric Hegedus, Integrated Golf at Duke is a program rooted in a performance philosophy that takes an individualized, whole-person approach to golf. Embraced by professionals that include Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, and Annika Sorenstam, integrated golf is about taking a unified approach to improving your game on three fronts:

  • The mechanics of the swing
  • The biomechanics behind the swing
  • The psychology behind the swing – and the game

Regardless of your skill level, Hegedus and Ibarguen will give you the guidance you need to achieve your golfing goals. The founder of Integrated Golf at Duke, Hegedus is a physical therapist and certified strength and conditioning specialist, as well as an expert in performance enhancement, the use of manual therapy to improve flexibility, and exercise for people experiencing pain. Board-certified in orthopaedics, Hegedus has practiced musculoskeletal medicine—and worked with golfers of all ages and abilities—for more than 15 years, evaluating the movement and biomechanics behind their swings and recommending appropriate interventions when limitations exist.

A PGA Master Golf Professional, Ibarguen has served as the general manager and PGA director of golf at the prestigious Duke University Golf Club since 1988. Named one of the Top 100 Teachers in America by GOLF Magazine from 2001–07, as well as the Top Instructor in North Carolina by Golf Digest magazine from 2000–07, his many honors include two national PGA awards. Ibarguen helps golfers develop a personalized strategy for game improvement that is based upon the areas they wish to develop—whether it’s their swing, their long game, or their short game. The overarching goal is to provide hands-on coaching that helps each person advance toward their individual objectives of play.

A Top-Ranked Golf Course

Open since 1957—and the region’s only golf course designed by celebrated architect Robert Trent Jones—the 18-hole championship Duke University Golf Club is top ranked in the area and the country, consistently earning high marks from Golf Digest, GOLF, Golfweek, and Zagat Survey.

Just a short walk from the Duke Integrative Medicine facility, the club employs six PGA Professionals in addition to Ibarguen and offers a professional-level practice area that houses a driving range, six putting and chipping greens, seven sand bunkers, and eight target greens.
